ISDM Partners with 22 Not-for-Profit Organisations to drive change in the Development Sector

New Delhi, India, May 10, 2017- A Delhi based non-profit educational institution, Indian School of Development Management (ISDM) has been set up through collective philanthropy to develop a pipeline of leaders and managers for the development space to lead social enterprises, foundations and non-profit organisations. Before kick starting their first batch in July, ISDM has already partnered with 22 educational and not for profit organisations that will be involved in various aspects of the student’s learning journey including curriculum development, guest lectures, internships and recruitment. CRY, Teach for India, Pratham, Magic Bus, Salaam Bombay Foundation, Grameen Foundation India, Villgro, Ashoka University’s CSIP, are only a few of ISDM’s partners who are supporting them in their vision of filling the talent gap in the social sector.

The social development sector has seen tremendous growth in the past few years with more and more people opting for a career in this field. Recognizing this trend, the ISDM founding team feels that despite the increasing interest in this field, people are not equipped with the right knowledge and skill set to take on managerial and leadership positions. It is with this thought that ISDM came into existence. Course development and delivery, research to develop the discipline of development management, recruitment, internships, guest lectures, mentoring are the different ways in which these partners are helping the founders of ISDM achieve their mission.

For students, this comes as great news since the alliances are with some of the leading institutes and NGOs of the country. Internships, placements and practical experience with such organisations will definitely provide an impetus to their educational experience.

Talking on the announcement, Mr. Ravi Sreedharan, Founder, Indian School of Development Management said, “We are delighted to have several leading organizations as part of our eco-system. Our objective is to create a practical experience along with enriching classroom discussions and our diverse range of partners are making this possible at each step in our journey. Each of these organisations is doing great work and we are looking forward to deeper collaborations. At ISDM, our goal is to make our students ready to lead the social sector and these partnerships will give the students the experience and guidance necessary to achieve this.”

Suresh Krishna, MD Grameen Finance Services, shared, “For development to be meaningful and sustainable, it needs to be professionalised. Development managers need to be equipped with all these skills which business managers have - but all these skills must be socially driven. They need to be empathetic in the way they deal with social issues and communities. I strongly feel that ISDM will develop managers in a way that they will be able to bring in social change. They will have the ability to work in an uncertain environment to resolve real issues at every level.”

ISDM along with its partners strives to boost the development sector by providing future leaders in this space. The institute is launching its first batch in July with 60 students – all on a 100% scholarship.
